Take the hardest and most precision-sensitive steps out of making your own handsaw handle with this quarter sawn cherry saw handle blank. Each blank is prepared with the critical blade slot, saw back mortise, and saw bolt holes already cut, allowing you to focus on shaping, fitting, sanding, and finishing your handle.

One of the most difficult parts of building a traditional saw handle is cutting a perfectly straight slot for the saw blade. Even a small amount of misalignment can cause the finished saw plate to sit crooked in the handle, and it is not uncommon for an otherwise good handle blank to be discarded after an inaccurate slot is cut. These blanks eliminate that problem by completing the precision machining before the handle reaches your shop.

Each blank includes a 0.030" saw blade slot, a 3/16" mortise for a folded saw back, and 3/16" saw bolt holes. Handle shaping lines are also provided as a guide, giving you a clear starting point while still allowing you to customize the final shape, contours, and comfort of the grip.

The blanks are approximately 0.85"–0.96" thick, providing plenty of material for shaping and refining the handle to your preferred thickness and feel.

Build a Straight Saw Without Specialized Equipment

Cutting the blade slot is one of the most unforgiving operations in traditional saw handle making. The slot must be narrow, centered, and extremely straight for the saw plate to align correctly with the handle. Accomplishing this consistently can require specialized tooling, careful fixtures, or considerable experience.

By supplying the handle blank with the blade slot and saw back mortise already machined, this blank makes traditional saw building much more accessible to woodworkers who do not have specialized saw-making equipment.

You still get the satisfaction of shaping and finishing your own custom cherry saw handle, while the most difficult precision work has already been completed.

Whether you are building a new traditional backsaw, replacing an old saw handle, or experimenting with custom handsaw making, this pre-machined cherry saw handle blank provides a reliable foundation for creating a straight, functional, and attractive finished saw.
